What if I’m not good at art?
That’s okay! You don’t need to be creative or good at making art to attend art therapy. It’s not about creating perfect art – it’s about the journey of making it. The art therapist is there to provide a safe, supportive, non-judgemental space for you to create freely.
What does an art therapy session look like?
A standard meeting time for individual therapy is 50 minutes. In the event that a longer session is required, options and fees may be discussed in advance. Group sessions would be 60 – 90 minutes depending on the group size and needs.
A typical art therapy session offers a safe, supportive space to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences through art. Sessions generally include an introduction and check-in, setting intentions, engaging in artmaking, reflecting on the artwork, and a closing reflection. The first session will take the form of an intake and assessment session. Sessions thereafter are tailored to your individual needs, focusing on your journey of self-discovery, healing, and growth.
Can I use my medical aid to claim for art therapy sessions?
Yes, however, please be aware that coverage varies. You would need to pay for the session upfront and then claim reimbursement from your medical aid. It is advisable to check with your provider for specific details on what is covered.
What is your policy for canceling or rescheduling appointments?
Please provide at least 24 business hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment. To make any scheduling changes, contact the art therapist via call, text, or email. Missing an appointment without providing notice will be considered a late cancellation, and a late cancellation fee will apply.
How do I contact the art therapist?
To contact the art therapist, you can email, call, or send a message on WhatsApp. The contact details are on the ‘Contact’ page of the website. Your art therapist will respond within 24 business hours.
Please avoid using public social media for therapy-related discussions, even in emergencies. For urgent mental health situations, call or visit your local emergency room and request emergency mental health services.
If you see the art therapist outside of the office, they will not acknowledge you unless you acknowledge them first. Your privacy and confidentiality are top priorities. The art therapist is committed to ensuring your privacy is never compromised. If you choose to greet your art therapist, they will respond briefly. All treatment-related conversations will occur only during your sessions.
